Son projet de th\u00e8se interroge la place accord\u00e9e aux philosophies africaines et aux probl\u00e9matiques qu\u2019elles privil\u00e9gient au sein des d\u00e9bats contemporains sur le cosmopolitisme et la justice globale. Auparavant, ses recherches ont port\u00e9 sur les enjeux du d\u00e9veloppement en Afrique relativement aux orientations des institutions financi\u00e8res internationales.<\/p>\n<p>Sur les traces de l\u2019auteur afro-am\u00e9ricain W.E.B. Du Bois, le philosophe Anthony Kwame Appiah se pr\u00e9occupe dans son <em>Lines of Descent <\/em>(2014) de l\u2019articulation entre identit\u00e9 personnelle, nationalisme culturel et universel cosmopolitique, \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re du signifiant social de la race. Appiah se penche sp\u00e9cifiquement sur l\u2019influence qu\u2019a exerc\u00e9e la pens\u00e9e allemande de la fin du 19e si\u00e8cle sur le d\u00e9veloppement de la pens\u00e9e de Du Bois.<\/p>\n<p>Dans la foul\u00e9e de travaux ant\u00e9rieurs, il s\u2019y int\u00e9resse \u00e0 la question de l\u2019identit\u00e9 raciale et \u00e0 la place qu\u2019elle occupe dans sa th\u00e9orisation du panafricanisme.
