Lorsque les Gambiens se rendaient aux urnes, peu d\u2019entre eux avaient du mal \u00e0 croire que ces \u00e9lections marqueraient un grand tournant dans l\u2019histoire politique de leur pays. Jamais en 50 ans, il n\u2019y avait eu en Gambie une transition du pouvoir \u00e0 travers des \u00e9lections : le r\u00e9gime autoritaire de Jammeh donnait encore moins d\u2019espoir. <\/p>\n<p>Le 1er d\u00e9cembre 2016, Adama Barrow  remporte haut la main les \u00e9lections et devient le 3\u00e8me pr\u00e9sident de la Gambie. L\u2019acquiescement de Jammeh sur sa d\u00e9faite au lendemain des \u00e9lections \u00e9tonne les Gambiens et la communaut\u00e9 internationale qui s\u2019attendaient plus \u00e0 des repr\u00e9sailles. Malheureusement, la stup\u00e9faction ne fut que de courte dur\u00e9e, il conteste les r\u00e9sultats et demande qu\u2019une nouvelle \u00e9lection soit faite. Entra\u00eenant ainsi leur m\u00e9contentement, l\u2019Union Africaine, le conseil de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et  la CEDEAO , l\u2019invitent \u00e0 reconna\u00eetre sa d\u00e9faite. La menace d\u2019emploi de la force par la CEDEAO l\u2019a finalement pouss\u00e9  \u00e0 c\u00e9der le si\u00e8ge pr\u00e9sidentiel \u00e0 son successeur Adama Barrow.<\/p>\n<p>Nonobstant deux d\u00e9cennies sous le joug d\u2019un r\u00e9gime autoritaire, le peuple gambien r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 s\u2019en d\u00e9faire par une transition d\u00e9mocratique historique, acclam\u00e9e par la communaut\u00e9 internationale. Il s\u2019approprie \u00e0 nouveau ses droits politiques et marque selon plusieurs observateurs un nouveau pas vers la d\u00e9mocratie avec la mise en place d\u2019une \u00e9lection jug\u00e9e par Ibn Chambas, cr\u00e9dible et transparente . La Gambie red\u00e9couvre-t-elle la d\u00e9mocratie ? Comment en est-on arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 une red\u00e9couverte de la d\u00e9mocratie ? Quel a \u00e9t\u00e9 le r\u00f4le de la CEDEAO dans l\u2019op\u00e9ration \u2018\u2019restauration de la d\u00e9mocratie\u2019\u2019 en Gambie  ? Cette op\u00e9ration signifie-t-elle que les acquis d\u00e9mocratiques sont irr\u00e9versibles dans la r\u00e9gion ouest Africaine ? Comment consolider ce nouveau r\u00e9gime politique adopt\u00e9 par la Gambie ?
