Dr Sa\u00efd Abass Ahamed, cofondateur et directeur \u00e9xecutif de Thinking Africa fut l’un des conf\u00e9renciers de la premi\u00e8re \u00e9dition de L\u2019universit\u00e9 populaire de l\u2019engagement citoyen (UPEC 2018) qui s’est tenu \u00e0 #Dakar du 23 au 27 juillet 2018. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Le th\u00e8me de sa conf\u00e9rence d\u2019hier \u00e9tait \u00ab Luttes africaines d\u2019hier \u00e0 aujourd\u2019hui : nos victoires et nos d\u00e9faites \u00bb, il a, entre autres, rappel\u00e9, \u00e0 la fin de son intervention, ces mots d\u2019Amilcar Cabral :
\n\u00ab\u00a0N’oubliez jamais que les hommes ne se battent pas pour des id\u00e9es, pour des choses qui n’existent que dans la t\u00eate des individus. Les hommes se battent [pour des avantages mat\u00e9riels], afin de vivre mieux et en paix, de conna\u00eetre le progr\u00e8s et d’assurer l’avenir de leurs enfants. La lib\u00e9ration, la lutte contre le colonialisme, la construction de la paix et du progr\u00e8s – l’ind\u00e9pendance – tout cela, ce sont des mots creux et sans signification pour le peuple s’ils ne sont pas traduits en termes de v\u00e9ritables am\u00e9liorations dans ses conditions de vie.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n

Par ailleurs, le Dr Sa\u00efd Abass a anim\u00e9 un certain nombre d’\u00e9changes avec les activistes africains pr\u00e9sents lors de l’UPEC 2018<\/a>, o\u00f9 la question du rapport et des rapports de force avec les pouvoirs en place a \u00e9t\u00e9 largement abord\u00e9e. Son message a notamment \u00e9t\u00e9 le suivant:
\n1. \u00ab\u00a0L\u2019activisme ce n\u2019est pas du suicide. Quand le r\u00e9gime devient fou et commence \u00e0 couper des t\u00eates, il faut fuir et mettre les forces vives \u00e0 l\u2019abri afin de r\u00e9organiser la lutte ailleurs\u2026 Il faut une strat\u00e9gie de survie !\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Prenons le temps de nous organiser. Prenons le temps de savoir ce qui nous r\u00e9unit, ce \u00e0 quoi nous sommes pr\u00eats \u00e0 donner notre vie et ce pourquoi il n\u2019est pas la peine de donner sa vie.
