Rassurez-vous, il n\u2019est point question de ces \u00ab fulgurances essentielles \u00bb que Fanon redoutait. Firmin ne s\u2019embarrasse pas de m\u00e9taphysique. Surtout, il ne pr\u00eate le flanc \u00e0 aucune des deux \u201cm\u00e9taphysiques\u201d que l\u2019auteur de Peau noire, masques blancs d\u00e9nonce : d\u2019une part, la m\u00e9taphysique de la \u00ab blancheur \u00bb, et d\u2019autre part, la m\u00e9taphysique de la \u00ab noirceur \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>En somme, les m\u00e9taphysiques de la couleur. La fulgurance de Firmin est celle d\u2019une pens\u00e9e qui interroge les dogmes d\u2019une \u00e9poque. Son si\u00e8cle \u00e9tait celui du dogme de la \u00ab race \u00bb et des id\u00e9ologies raciales. \u00c9pris des valeurs humanistes de son peuple, il se propose d\u2019allumer une \u00e9tincelle dans les t\u00e9n\u00e8bres de ce si\u00e8cle obscur. Juste une \u00e9tincelle. Voil\u00e0 ce que repr\u00e9sente modestement Firmin. Une \u00e9toile qui brille dans le ciel brumeux et bruyant d\u2019un si\u00e8cle n\u00e9buleux.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est l\u2019oeuvre de cet homme, fervent d\u00e9vot de l\u2019Humanit\u00e9, que nous nous proposons de re-parcourir bri\u00e8vement. La th\u00e9matique centrale de cette oeuvre nous emble \u00eatre celle de l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9. De mani\u00e8re succincte, nous examinerons comment l\u2019auteur aborde cette th\u00e9matique dans ses \u00e9crits, en particulier dans son ouvrage majeur, De l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9 (1885).
