Le Kankurang, cette pratique qui parcourt le temps depuis plus de 100 ans est originaire de Gabou, Woyi et Pakao, et est un symbole fort de l\u2019identit\u00e9 des communaut\u00e9s mandingue de la S\u00e9n\u00e9gambie. Elle joue un r\u00f4le de r\u00e9gulation sociale et de protection de la nature \u00e0 travers le rite d\u2019initiation (marque de passage de la vie d\u2019adolescence \u00e0 la vie d\u2019homme). Ce rite est une occasion pour les jeunes initi\u00e9s d\u2019apprendre les secrets des plantes et de leurs vertus m\u00e9dicinales et des techniques de chasse. Et le plus important ces jeunes doivent apprendre les\u00a0 r\u00e8gles de comportement qui garantissent la coh\u00e9sion du groupe, le Kankurang permet \u00e9galement de pr\u00e9venir les conflits au sein de la communaut\u00e9 mais aussi entre celle-ci et les autres communaut\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Comment elle se pratique\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chaque ann\u00e9e le Kankurang sort durant le mois de septembre. La sortie du masque est associ\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019initiation des jeunes. Pendant cette p\u00e9riode ces derniers\u00a0 re\u00e7oivent des ain\u00e9s des connaissances sur\u00a0 certaines valeurs et acqui\u00e8rent les comportements \u00a0que la communaut\u00e9 exig\u00e9 d\u2019un homme m\u00fbr. Pendant tout le mois de septembre, la Collectivit\u00e9 mandingue expose son patrimoine culturel. Mbour (ville gardienne du Kankurang)\u00a0 va alors vibr\u00e9 sur du\u00a0 \u00ab Sowrouba \u00bb, du \u00ab Kutiiroo \u00bb, du \u00ab Junkurado \u00bb et du \u00ab Sabaroo \u00bb,\u00a0 et aussi du \u00ab diambad song \u00bb, des pas de danse sacr\u00e9e qui accompagne les initi\u00e9s de toutes les classes d\u2019\u00e2ge et prend d\u00e9part de la brousse vers les diff\u00e9rents \u00ab leuls \u00bb sur les sites du Woyinka, de Thioc\u00e9 Est et Ouest, de Diamagu\u00e8ne, de Santessou et Mboul\u00e8me\u00a0 les jeunes sont form\u00e9s encadr\u00e9s , et \u00e9duqu\u00e9 pour affronter leurs vies d\u2019adultes.<\/p>\n<p>Dans son rapport sur le m\u00e9canisme endog\u00e9nes de prevention et de gestion des conflits en Afrique de l\u2019Ouest Monsieur M. Almahady YATTARA d\u00e9crit le\u00a0 personnage central du Kankurang <strong>comme un initi\u00e9 qui porte un masque fait d\u2019\u00e9corce et de fibres rouges d\u2019un arbre appel\u00e9 faara ; il est v\u00eatu de feuilles et son corps est peint de teintures v\u00e9g\u00e9tales<\/strong>. Il est associ\u00e9 aux c\u00e9r\u00e9monies de circoncision et aux rites initiatiques. Son apparition est marqu\u00e9e par une s\u00e9rie d\u2019\u00e9tapes rituelles : la d\u00e9signation de l\u2019initi\u00e9 qui portera le masque et son investiture par les anciens, sa retraite dans la for\u00eat avec les initi\u00e9s, les veill\u00e9es et processions dans le hameau des nouveaux initi\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ce qu\u2019il faut retenir\u00a0:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le Kankurang est \u00e0 la fois le garant de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, \u00a0En tant que tel, il assure la transmission et l\u2019enseignement d\u2019un ensemble de pratiques qui constituent le fondement de l\u2019identit\u00e9 culturelle mandingue. Ce rituel, qui s\u2019est \u00e9tendu \u00e0 d\u2019autres communaut\u00e9s et groupes de la r\u00e9gion, est l\u2019occasion pour les jeunes initi\u00e9s d\u2019apprendre les r\u00e8gles de comportement qu\u2019il faut adopter pour garantir la coh\u00e9sion du groupe et les valeurs culturelle de la communaut\u00e9 mandingue.
